12 Foolproof Ways To Increase Workplace Productivity

October 1, 2018 by Josh Leave a Comment

Your workspace is where all the action takes place, cluttering it with unnecessary items like office supplies, electronics, papers, books, and files won’t help in getting much work done. An organized workspace, on the other hand, can boost your creativity and energy, thus making you more productive at work.

Setting up a productive space doesn’t require a lot of money, making a few changes here and there can go a long way. So here are 12 office desk hacks which will help transform your messy space and also improve your workplace performance.

Lighting matters:

Research has shown that employees who had windows near their workplace would get more natural light, and thus have a better sleeping pattern. This leads to better health, increased productivity and alertness in the workplace.

If your workspace is not close to a window, you can try investing in a light box which will help to deliver a similar effect of natural light.

Use storage boxes:

Loose papers, files, and cables can make your workspace feel messy and cluttered. You can decorate paper boxes and use them to hide away these unnecessary items.

Add a plant:

Potted Plants are a perfect accessory for your workspace. You can try an air plant or the succulent variety as they require less attention and maintenance. Also, exposure to the color green can increase productivity and make your office feel fresh and full of oxygen.

Use essential oils:

Using essential oils can stimulate your mind. One such example is Peppermint Oil which can enhance your cognitive performance (i.e. increasing memory and alertness of the mind).

You can rub a few drops of peppermint oil on your neck and temples for a soothing effect. If you’re not into peppermint, there are many other scents available in the market. Do a bit of research and use the one that you like.

Chew-Chew-Chew:

Keep a pack of sugar-free gum on your desk. Chewing gum can improve your concentration. Try peppermint flavor to boost both your alertness as well as memory.

Use noise cancellation headphones:

Working in or near a noisy environment can subside your concentration. In fact, loud noises can increase your blood pressure levels and also heightens the risk of accidents in the workplace. That’s why it’s wise to invest in a pair of noise cancellation headphones for that much-needed sound relief.

Keep a blanket with you:

No, you don’t need it to sleep. If it gets too cold at work, your body tries to adjust to the low temperature and this can affect both your concentration and productivity.

Keep a throw blanket in your bag or under your desk and you’ll be able to adjust to the temperature easily.

Shift to a gaming keyboard:

A gaming keyboard has more keys and visual references. You can use shortcuts for almost everything. Thus, making it easier and faster for you to complete tasks.

Take small breaks:

You will always have work. But taking small breaks is crucial for you to stay fresh, energized and manage your workflow. Use a stopwatch to set yourself a break reminder.

Look away every now and then:

Make it a habit to gaze twenty feet away for twenty seconds. This practice helps prevent straining of eyes, which can cause fatigue and other eye problems.

Block notifications on your phone:

The beeps and vibrations on your mobile device can break your attention from work. You can download a notification- blocking app to get rid of such intrusions.

Keep toys at work:

By toys, we mean fidget widgets which can help you convert excess energy into productive actions. A stress toy can be a hand cruncher or a squeezing ball whichever you prefer.

So try them out and see how your boring space transforms into a dynamic and productive platform.
