Are You Designing a Product Label? A Look at Popular Label Colours and Styles for Your Products

July 7, 2018 by Josh Leave a Comment

The colours of your product label play a significant part in the success of your product, as it will serve to draw customers in and perhaps even encourage them to try out your product. Colours can be used to evoke a mood or an emotion, and you can’t deny the fact that your label will be more attractive and effective if you use the right colours. That being said, you need to choose your label colour wisely and with a lot of careful thought. Along with the label colour, there is a range of materials as well. So, what do you need to know about label colours, and how do you begin choosing the right one? Are you designing a product label? Here’s a look at popular label colours and styles for your products.

  • Pastel

When a pure colour such as blue or green is mixed with white, it will result in a paler and lighter version of that colour, which is called pastel. Pastels are not intense or bold, but they do serve a purpose. You may want to consider a pastel-coloured label if you want to evoke a lighthearted, open feel to your product and make your consumers feel relaxed and soothed as well. Pastels are usually associated with spring and femininity, and they’re highly useful for products such as lotions, body creams, and other skin care products.

  • Fluorescent

Fluorescent colours can also be known as neon colours, and they are bold, bright, and attention-grabbing. If you want to make use of happy, loud, and upbeat colours for the label of your product, neon can be an optimum choice. Fluorescents or neons are best used in moderation, however, although they do bring a special light to any product label.

  • Metallic

Metallic label colours are immensely popular as well, and for good reason, as the experts in advanced labelling systems such as Atwell will attest. A shiny label catches the eye, whether it’s gold or silver. If you have a premium, luxury product such as handmade Belgian chocolate pralines or a special wine or liquor, a metallic label may be a good option. Silver, for instance, symbolises sophistication and glamour, whilst gold is associated with luxury and quality. One important note: between gold and silver, gold is seen to evoke more masculinity.

  • Brown paper

Another trendy label colour and style is brown craft paper, which offers a more rustic, natural, or homemade effect to a product. The colour of the paper is earthy and practical, but it’s also quite attractive, particularly for home-made or artisanal products.

  • Clear

One of the most popular choices when it comes to label colours and styles is the clear product label. With a clear label, your product can be fully showcased. Clear product labels offer a more minimalistic look to a product, and they are modern and really make your product stand out. What’s more, clear product labels often signify transparency and openness as well. If you think about it, many food items and cosmetic items have clear labels, and there’s a clear (no pun intended) reason for this.
